The First Mud Bowl
In 1934, SAE brother Karl “Bunny” Giller crossed Washtenaw Avenue to challenge Phi Delta Theta to a football game for a keg of beer around midterms, creating what would become an enduring Ann Arbor tradition (documented by AnnArbor.com).
The Philanthropic Mission
Organizers officially partnered with Michigan Medicine, transforming the athletic spectacle into one of the university's largest student philanthropic endeavors supporting pediatric care at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital and oncology research at Rogel Cancer Center.

The Michigan Mudbowl Club operates as an IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) public charity (EIN: 81-3314335) and student organization, hosting men's mud football and women's mud volleyball tournaments across participating Greek chapters.
